Areas to do controls/Moving off & Stopping Quiet roads are important to practice moving off and stopping and understanding the controls. That’s why WDS recommends Parkside Gardens in Wimbledon, Victoria Road in Mitcham, Milner Road in Morden, and Erridge Road for those in Raynes Park or Merton Park. Left/Right turns and emerging at T-Junctions The roads around Parkside Gardens within the Wimbledon area are an excellent place to practice left and right turns. For the areas of Merton and Raynes Park, take advantage of the quiet roads around Erridge Road. Seddon Road is perfect for practicing for those in the Morden area and finally St Barnabus is recommended for the Mitcham area. This circuit provides a tried and tested method for allowing the student to practice steering, MSPSL and peep and creep techniques. Crossroads Epsom Road and Tudor Drive meet at ideal crossroads for learning about priorities and the extra observation that is essential at crossroads. Additionally it is possible to practice right-to-right crossroads here. Meeting Traffic When two cars meet and yet there is only room for one to pass, this is known as meeting traffic. The body language of the other car is key to knowing how to proceed correctly. A good place for practicing this technique safely is Dudley Drive in Morden. Roundabouts Illustrating priorities and positioning at roundabouts can be demonstrated at the Beverley roundabout. Appropriate signaling is important to understand and can be illustrated here also. Pedestrian Crossings and use of Signals Wimbledon Hill Road into the Broadway provides a number of different crossings and signals for the student to become familiar with. This route also enables planning issues to be addressed. Areas to do Maneuvers The roads of Victoria Road in Mitcham are perfect for practicing maneuvers. For Wimbledon try the roads off Parkside Gardens, Morden, use the roads of Seddon Road, and finally for Merton and Raynes park, use the roads off and surrounding Erridge Road.
